Accessibility

  • MediaJustice and Mijente are committed to doing everything we can to provide a welcoming, accessible environment for all attendees, leaning into our values that allow people to show up as their full selves. The following are a general overview of the accessibility and inclusion services, and facilities, offered at this conference, as well as what is available on-demand and some of the potential barriers to attending.

  • Policies and guidelines are subject to change and will be communicated to registered attendees as soon as changes are made.

Masking: In order to keep this event as accessible as possible to everyone, we expect attendees to wear a mask (N95 or K95) over their mouth and nose while indoors at sessions at the conference. We request attendees wear masks even in common areas for the health and safety of our comrades. Masks will be provided for those who do not have one.

Please note: the masking requirement applies only to formal conference spaces and sessions—attendees should be aware of the possibility that attendees, and other staff or members of the public, may be unmasked elsewhere in the conference space (or beyond) where they may informally congregate. Attendees will also be unmasked for eating. Conference space staff may be unmasked.

Testing: Attendees are encouraged to test themselves for COVID prior to making their way to the conference. Free rapid antigen tests will also be available on site. Attendees should isolate themselves and reach out to access@mediajustice.org about securing a test if they experience any possible COVID symptoms while attending the conference.

Speakers: The sole exception to the masking policy above applies to session speakers, who may remove their masks only while they are delivering presentations from the front of their session room. We strongly encourage session speakers planning to un-mask during their presentations to pick up a free rapid test from the registration desk and test themselves 4-6 hours before their session.

Please stay tuned for further public health updates and precautions.

Please e-mail Shubha Balabaer access@mediajustice.org with any other accommodations you may need.

    • Masking will be required at this event, so lip reading will not be possible.

    • This event is not scent-free.

    • Sessions will not be recorded or streamed.

    • Most sessions will not have handouts, or printed slides to share.

    • Childcare will not be accessible to all kids - there will be a larger group of kids cared for by a few adults (no 1:1 support for kids), and the adults will not necessarily have training in medical care. Reach out to access@mediajustice.org if you would like to discuss any needs that will make child care more accessible for your children.

Unfortunately, we cannot make every aspect of the event barrier-free, because we are limited by finances, logistics, facilities and staffing. Please email Shubha Balabaer and the access team at access@mediajustice.org with any questions.

Finally, thank you to the Socialism Conference and Minnesota Autism Conference for modeling how to keep events and gatherings accessible to our communities.
